FIGHTING SMOKEY JOE

Fighting Smokey Joe is a reggae rock band from Northern California formed by longtime friends singer Monica Thiede and guitarist Dave Powell. Combining their love of rock and roots based music, it wasn’t long before this songwriting team’s laid-back grooves, heavy hooks and catchy pop melodies paved the way to its reggae rocking sound. With a blend of Bob Marley inspired riffs, soulful No Doubt like vocals, and an undeniable Sublime style groove, Fighting Smokey Joe is all about the love, great friends and good times.

In 2015, Fighting Smokey Joe released their first full-length album “Never Gonna Be The Same" with Producer Lewis Richards (Dirty Heads, Slightly Stoopid). The ten-song album features a mix of summer feel good vibes, ripping guitar solos and laid back, straight up California reggae rock.

In a genre dominated by male singers, this female fronted band is fighting their way onto the reggae music scene. With the release of their debut EP “Till The Morning” back in 2013, the band has already been gaining press for their songwriting talents. “All I Need Is You, has all the elements of a hit radio single,” says Marin Independent Journal’s Paul Liberatore.

Fighting Smokey Joe is comprised of singer Monica Thiede, guitarist David Powell, bassist Tim Baker and drummer Lu Rodriguez.

The music of FSJ draws influence from a wide range of artists including Sublime, No Doubt, Slightly Stoopid, Dirty Heads, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Michael Franti, Led Zeppelin, The Police, Pepper and many more.
